***SPECIAL NOTICE TO CANDIDATES FOR 2012 ELECTIONS***

With the passage of HB 1355, The Florida Legislature has changed the candidate oath that must be signed in order to qualify for public office. It now states “That the person has not been a registered member of any other political party for 365 days before the beginning of qualifying preceding the general election for which the person seeks to qualify.”   As a result, a candidate may not change political parties to run for office for 365 days prior to the beginning of the qualifying period for the General Election. (F.S. 99.021 (b) (2)) For all partisan County offices, the deadline to change parties to run for office was June of 2011. Therefore, if a candidate has changed party affiliation within the specified 365 day period, they must run as a “No Party Affiliation” candidate.
